AI copywriting is the hot new tool in the marketer’s toolkit, but let’s not get carried away. Yes, AI can churn out content quickly, generate headlines, and help with product descriptions.
But can it do the necessary deep customer research and craft compelling copy that stirs emotions, persuades readers, and builds lasting customer relationships? Not quite. Not yet.
Great Copywriting Secret
The secret to great copywriting has always been understanding the customer / reader / viewer — what makes them tick, what keeps them up at night, what they get emotional about. It’s empathy and insight that AI, no matter how advanced, can’t replicate because it doesn’t know who your customers are and what they care about.
So, while AI can assist with certain tasks, it won’t replace the power of a skilled copywriter who knows how to do market research with actual customers and connect on a human level. Are any of the AI systems going to contact your customers and learn about them? No. Not yet.
AI Copywriting is a Gamble
AI will guess, or approximate, what your customers might care about. You’re gambling that the AI system you’re using will be correct. Are you going to put money behind that copy to use in an ad, collateral, article? That’s a lock on losing your marketing budget with zero, or at best, lower measured results – just like going to Las Vegas, where the house usually wins and you don’t.
The best copy doesn’t just inform — it engages emotionally, persuades, and motivates action from real humans. Understanding them is the first step.
That’s something only a human writer can do. AI is a great tool for enhancing what a copywriter and script writer does. I’ll report on that in future articles.
