Lake Placid (FL) School was built and classes started in the new building in 1925. Grades 1 through 12 were taught.
As the town grew, additions were made on the building but eventually the population and need for education outgrew the property and a new high school, middle school, and elementary school were built in town.
The building became home to the South Florida Community College – Lake Placid, an extension to the main campus in Avon Park. It’s now South Florida State College – Lake Placid Center and I’m an adjunct here, online, and at other campuses.
I’m doing a documentary film of the history of the building and about some of the students, teachers, and administrators from over the years. Production started this week.
I turned my classroom into a video set for interviews.
